Homeland Security Seizes Land Rover

Cheryl Chumley reported in the Washington Times on Friday, August 1, 2014, that the Department of Homeland Security (“DPS”) seized Jennifer Brinkley’s 1985 Land Rover Defender because it “may have” violated USEPA emissions rules.  Brinkley bought the vehicle on line about a year ago.  DPS seized it because they “thought” it violated the Clean Air Act.  “Thought” it violated??  This vehicle was just one of forty (40) vehicles seized in various locations that same day for the same reason.

WBTV of Charlotte, North Carolina also reported that federal law enforcement was seeking out imported vehicles with altered VINs that did not meet USEPA emission laws.  Since when did DPS become the law enforcement arm of the USEPA; the USEPA does have its own criminal investigation unit?  Why is DPA involved at all???
